Feeling Energised ~ New Designs Flowing

Cultural events have been the order of the week, which has made for a positive start to the summer holidays.

Being around friends who are creative and being in creative spaces ranging from art exhibitions to jazz clubs has inspired me to embrace my own creative side.

So back to the drawing board literally. I dug out my sketch book and pens, previous drawings (for reflections) and digital drawing pad. I made a list of the principles I wanted to follow so I had a basic structure and just got doing.

You can see from these initial drawings and experiments (and these are just my favourites from a multitude of different examples) that there are two variations - layers and single image.

At the moment I am really drawn to these two aesthetics, let’s hope others agree too. The next plan is to experiment more with mono printing and painting in to the image for a mixed media layered effect, which again is very pleasing to the eye and I have had good feedback on this. So I will try to push forward with this as well.

But so far I am pleased with how things are progressing. Next task will be to see how the prints looks on fabric by getting some samples done.

So back to juggling selling the current collection and pushing the new one forward.

Collusion of the Digital World and Painted Expressions

are becoming more and more common in  my experimental outcomes; and I am loving the process.

The beauty with digitized work is that you can delete it immediately if you do not like something. With paint you have to wait for it to dry before making any changes, which can be very laborious and time consuming.  So this process allows me to switch things up quickly.

Plus it helps my impulsive nature.

Nothing much to add, so here are some examples of what I have been playing with...  time to reflect but time to keep making ~ this is key.

Digital Painting Experiments and Abstraction

Following on from my drawings and t-shirt visualisations, I started experimenting with colour and abstract expressionism. Could they work in conjunction with the drawings or along side them?

I want the new designs to be vibrant, although I need to test the market. Who knows, people may prefer more simple colour ways, such as black and white; we will see. But the point is about there being choice and ultimately to be a good business woman I need to understand what people want in terms of aesthetic as opposed to my own taste.

Nothing is finalised but I am enjoying the process of playing about with my drawing pad and seeing where things go. I have also been thinking of a new statement

WHATS YOUR STORY?

We all have them and sometimes we need a space in which to share them, be encouraged to voice our thoughts and in doing so, we may find people we can align ourselves with or at least empathise with. The world needs more kindness I think?  More platforms and more openness without judgement.

Moving forward, the next step is to see how I can match the colour with some drawings, maybe keep it more linear rather than big blocks of colour. I want them, he drawings, to be more expressive and less figurative in the traditional sense. Need to practice that more. But the more I play about the better everything becomes so I need to practice what I preach.

Final thought  - an experiment with text in block form rather than free hand? Does it work? What do you think?
